The legend of Batu Menangis

Hello to the fellas from every corner of the world. I hope you enjoy my blog. Intentionally, I write this blog in the context of culture. I do enjoy sharing my hometown story with all of you. This story came from the Land of Rafflesia, as we know Bengkulu from Indonesia. Before I serve all of you about Batu Menangis, I want to tell you about the local mindset about the culture here.

The locals are very protective and dominantly active to hold their beliefs about metaphysical things. Even though we already lived in the level of the different domains to believe a metaphysical thing, Indonesians are protective of culture because they love it. The sense of belonging having something is high makes some Indonesians make every cultural context are survived. It's not an easy task actually, but from my point of view everything about culture will be forever if we want to protect it. Here I am protecting my culture by making this blog. And this blog about "Batu Menangis"

Batu Menangis was basically like usual Indonesian folklore about temples, kingdoms, and some sacrilegious things related to the story. Batu Menangis was the story about There was a kingdom named Sriwijaya, Sriwijaya was a big kingdom that are divided into another small kingdom. One of the small kingdoms was believed located in Suban Air Panas. There lived a beautiful girl named Gemericik Emas, other known as Putri Slangka. She was named Putri Slangka, because in the Indonesian language “slangka” means one step. So, whenever she took one step, she will disappear into another place that she wanted.

One day, there was a charming prince proposed to her. She didn’t think of any marriage or couple in her life. Putri Slangka didn’t want to, so she decided to run away and cry near a stone. And when she took another step beside the stone, she disappeared. Her existence didn’t claim any evidence that she was disappeared from the earth. But since that accident, by any rituals or trigger you can hear the crying of Putri Slangka

Even though this is just folklore, the evidence, and the historical footprint was real on Suban Air Panas. So, the existence of Putri Slangka as one of the princesses of Sriwijaya was real too. Some myths are believed if some people did a ritual in the location of “Batu Menangis”, they can find their soulmate in a short time or get good fortune. Hence, the main point of culture is to protect historical value. I believed loving culture means loving nature and making you more mature as a human being.
